Verdiem

Verdiem puts green IT tools into not only the hands of the administrators that need them the most, but average users looking to cut back on their home electricity consumption as well.  The company sports two impressive computer electricity consumption reduction programs, Surveyor — An enterprise-level tool capable of scaling to thousands of users from a single policy server — and Edison, a single-user PC shedualer that allows the user to turn the computer on or off at certain times.

Surveyor is an impressive tool which leverages Intel’s vPro processor architechure.  By using vPro, secure communications can be established across forgein LANs and WANs to provide a policy service that spans both time and space.  The Surveyor server is installed on any Windows Server 2003 or 2008 computer, and allows administrators to set times to shut down, hibernate, or place the computer into standby.  The server also monitors client electricity consumption and is capable of generating reports that demonstrate electricity saved and green house gas emissions produced, providing tangible figures on not only the ROI for the company who uses it, but the impact your ROI has on the environment as well.

The surveyor client ensures that enacted policies do not harm users.  Documents and E-mails are gracefully saved, closed and shut down rather than lost when a policy is enforced.
