Sense Networks, Inc. indexes the real world using real-time and historical location data for predictive analytics across multiple industries.
Just as pages on the internet have been indexed and ranked in order to enable a better search experience, Sense Networks has developed patent-pending machine- learning technology to index and rank real world places, based on movement data between these places at different times.
The movement data, or location data, is collected in bulk and real-time from devices with GPS or WiFi positioning technology, such as mobile phones and automobiles. The result of this analysis is a rich profile of each location in a given city, at any given time, that can then be used to better understand visitors and anticipate their needs.
The company’s platform, Macrosense, receives streaming location data in real-time, analyzes and processes the data in the context of billions of historical data points, and stores it in a way that can be easily queried to better understand aggregate human activity.
The company’s first consumer application, Citysense, is for local nightlife discovery and social navigation. Citysense answers the timeless questions, “I wonder if people are out tonight?” and “I wonder where everybody is right now?”
In early 2010, the company released CabSense, to help users find available taxicabs near them. The first edition of CabSense was built in partnership with the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission and featured machine learned predictions on over 90 million taxi trips in New York City.
